While many people believe Pinot Grigio originated in Italy, it was actually born in France where it is known as “Pinot Gris”.
Unlike most white wine grapes where the skin is tones of green, Pinot Grigio actually has a blueish-grey colour skin, making it look more like a red wine grape (“gris”=grey in french)!
Since making it’s way to Italy it has since become one of the world’s most popular varietals, quickly becoming a best-selling white wine in both Italy and North America.
Incredibly refreshing, light, easy-to-drink and food-friendly, it’s not hard to see why this has become such a beloved grape.
