One of the many perks of working at Delish is the connection we share with our readers. Whether it’s a craft or a recipe, you’re quick to let us know what you think about it — and we take notice.
That’s what happened earlier this month when we shared our delicious discovery of Red Wine Hot Chocolate. We were already sold on the cozy, spiked beverage, but our Facebook fans really loved it. In just a few days, our post got thousands of shares, likes, and comments. (Thanks, guys!) And in one of those comments, a reader gave us an idea for something that sounded way better than red wine hot cocoa: red wine brownies.
We quickly searched for the perfect red wine brownie recipe to share with readers. Our hunt led us to — get your taste buds ready — Red Wine Brownies with Drunken Cranberries, from blogger A Cookie Named Desire. Have a look at the brownie here:
Not wasting any time, we got a bottle of our favorite red wine (we used this one), rounded up the rest of the ingredients, and got to work.
After pouring ourselves a glass (or two) of wine, we mixed the wine and cranberries, and let it sit for 30 minutes. While the berries absorbed the red wine, we mixed the flour, melted the chocolate and butter, and added eggs. We then mixed in the other ingredients, saving the now-drunken cranberries and wine for last. Then, it was ready for the oven, where it baked for 50 minutes.
Before we explain the perfection that came out of the oven, we have to prepare you for one thing if you’re going to be making this recipe on your own. The aroma that will fill your kitchen as the wine-soaked brownie mix bakes is unlike anything you’ve ever smelled before. If heaven has a scent, we’re convinced it’s red wine brownies baking in the oven.
As for what the brownies tasted like, we don’t think “really delicious” is enough of a superlative to describe them. Instead, we’ll leave you with the recipe one more time, and another photo of the yummy treat:
